Emily Brontë

The myth and mystery behind one of English literature’s greatest writers, Emily Brontë, has become almost as famous as her work. One of three literary sisters, Emily’s life was filled with tragedy and was often private and reserved, happier in the brutal countryside surrounding her hometown, Haworth, than with the company of others. Emily’s isolation and relatively little worldly experience heightens the genius of her imagination that resulted in the tempestuously passionate, Wuthering Heights. 

Emily wrote under the pen name, Ellis Bell, and her work was controversial and under appreciated during her time, but she proved to be a visionary with the wild and intense nature of her novel. She pined for the harsh and uncompromising landscape of the Yorkshire moors, one that fed and nurtured her creative genius and set the basis of her book, which ultimately led to her premature death.
