The Asylum

How far would you go to set someone free?

Patty Miller, a paraplegic, is discovered at home barely clinging to life. Her infant son, already dead, lies on her chest still clinging to his mother. Patty’s husband had abandoned his wife and child, leaving them without food, water or coal to heat their home.

On the morning that is Patty found, she is not expected to survive but is taken to the local hospital where she eventually recovers physically. But, severely emotionally disturbed, Patty soon finds herself a patient in Hillside Asylum.

As Patty’s condition deteriorates, the staff and doctors perform unnecessary experimental procedures on their patient.

But when someone from Patty’s past learns about her incarceration, they vow to get her out. And those responsible for the abuse will be made to suffer…

Why We Like It

  • Rich, detailed historical influence.
  • A suspenseful plot which keeps readers guessing.
  • A compelling new author with a unique story.

Debra was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario Canada. As a young woman, she worked in an office while raising her two children. In 1991 she changed course entirely and went back to college to become a nurse. This is where she met her future husband, Chris. From 1995 to 2014, Debra worked in a long-term care facility and thoroughly enjoyed her time there.

Sadly, in 2014 her son suddenly passed away and returning to nursing just didn’t seem like an option any longer. Struggling with depression and looking for an outlet to ease her mind, she began writing to escape to a time when life seemed less complicated. Without any formal training, Debra never once believed that, someday, she would become a published author. In 2015, her first book was published and there have been three others since, including two self-published books in 2018.

Debra’s writing future looks promising as Bloodhound Books will release her new psychological thriller, The Asylum, in October 2020.

How it works

The book will be delivered in 10 instalments (or staves), one every day. The instalments are delivered to your Pigeonhole bookshelf on your IOS or Android app. You will receive an email letting you know when each stave is available.

We believe that shared reading leads to new ideas and connections. That’s why we have a dynamic commenting system which allows in-text discussion between our readers. Post a comment and all your fellow readers will be able to respond. You can also choose to receive notifications (customise them here) when someone responds to your comment, or, additionally, whenever a comment is left in the book.

As you read you will see round purple icons at the edge of certain paragraphs – tap on these to reveal behind-the-scenes extra content!

Links will be included at the end of the final stave which will allow you to leave reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.
This book will be removed from the platform 14 days after the final stave.
